Texas Family Finds Perfect Beach Home on Galveston Island

When Karen and Marshall Eggers of Alvin, Texas, decided to purchase vacation beach property, they didn’t have to look far.  Galveston Island real estate has all the benefits of a resort community yet it’s close enough to the Houston area to get away for a day or long weekend without spending a lot of time driving,” said Marshall.

The Eggers have been in the entertainment industry for over 20 years and are involved in all entertainment venues in Texas.  “The hours are long and we seldom get time off, so this nice, resort-like place in Galveston so close to home is just what we were looking for.”

The Eggers found the beach home they were looking for in just one afternoon.  “We had considered canal property, but when we visited Terramar Beach on Galveston Island’s West End and saw the private landing, we decided we could have a little more privacy off the canal yet be close enough to enjoy the fishing and boating facilities,” he said.

The two bedroom, two bath house they purchased was less than two years old and had features that attracted them immediately.  “From a maintenance standpoint, we knew this home would require less upkeep for the next several years,” said Karen.  “We really liked the high-impact windows and doors and learned that they have sound-deadening qualities as well,” she said.

The beach home also has tile and easy-care wood laminate flooring, wood burning fireplace, huge living area and big covered porch that offers a panoramic view of the Gulf of Mexico.  The Eggers chose not to use their home as a resort rental but rather enjoy it year round with their two children and to share it with friends and employees.

The Eggers have some advice to offer those planning to buy real estate here.

“Find a good, knowledgeable Realty who knows Galveston Island and its market,” said Marshall.  “With resort-type vacation homes in such demand, we believe this is an investment that will show a good financial return while also being a place of enjoyment and relaxation for years to come.”
